What are the troubleshooting steps for HDMI detection issue with custom Carrier Board?

Recommended troubleshooting steps to follow when the HDMI output fails to function:

  1. Check for the voltage points on the SOM when the HDMI cable is connected.
  2. The below command provided will make the HDMI as always connected irrespective of the Cable connection,
    echo on > /sys/class/drm/card1-HDMI-A-1/status
  3. If using a display with a 1024x768 resolution. If not, EDID corruption might be causing random resolution or mode detection when the HDMI enable command is issued. Please verify that all EDID-related hardware connections on the board are stable.
  4. Check the I²C data and clock lines connected for EDID switches toggles with a logic analyzer when the HDMI cable is hot plugged.

Rrecommended hardware procedure for troubleshooting HDMI EDID issues:

  • The iWave logo is visible on the display because U-Boot doesn’t support the EDID function, whereas in the kernel, reading the proper EDID information is required for the display to work correctly.
